Well, you start off with your basic Subaru Impreza 2.5RS. 2.5 liter
horizontally-opposed 4-cylinder engine with 10:1 compression
creating 165hp@5600rpm and 166lb.ft. of torque at 4000 rpm -- add
an aftermarket turbo system and love of sweat, blood, and tears and
you get my current car. While it can be a nightmare in tuning, it is
quite a pleasure to drive. Not many turbo cars can get out of their
own way at 2000RPM. ;-)
I would have loved to have supercharged it instead, unfortunately it
means quite a bit of work as there are no complete setups out there.
I've looking into a roots-type blower setup and it can be done, but
the heating of the air and the boost levels I would want to run just
wouldn't get along. Centrifugal wouldn't be bad, but the way the boost
curve is shaped wouldn't give the car much of a kick.
