Fogs & High Beam mod
Why is it our fog lights go out as soon as we hit the high beams? You'd think they should stay on so that we can get even MORE light. Well, you'll be happy to know that it is a very simple fix. The ground for the fog lights runs through the high beam unit, and as soon as the high beams are turned on, the ground is cut for the fog lights. All you simply need to do is jumper a constant ground to the fog light switch and you're set.

Please note that this only leaves your fogs on with your high beams. This does not allow you to run your fog lights with just your parking lights. That is another mod. This is also for only the MY00-01 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS's. I don't know if this will work with other years since I have not checked their wiring.

Here's our layout (click to enlarge) :

1 & 2 are screws that you have you remove.

3 is a funky screw/clip that Subaru uses to confuse everyone. 1/4 turn with a phillips screwdriver and the center section will pop out a little and you can pull it out from there. Those are all the clips you'll have to remove.

4 & 5 (behind steering wheel in picture) are points behind the panel where it is clipped into the frame of the dashboard. You have to pull this directly outward (towards the driver's seat) to get it unclipped. Just slip your fingers next to the steering column and pull the back of the panel out.

Next we take a look at the plugs we'll be dealing with :

As you can see above, we will be dealing with the Grey (Gray?) plug. The Brown is for the Cruise Control and the Alarm light/switch for the factory alarm is on the right.

Finally, here are the wires we'll be dealing with (click to enlarge).

The Yel/Blu wire (yellow wire with blue stripe) on the grey plug is the ground I was talking about above. This runs up to the module for the high beams.

What I've done was to splice another wire into the middle of it, and connect the other end of that to the Black wire on the Cruise Control plug - I've found that black wire to be a constant ground so that will work fine. If you don't want to mess with that, you can find another ground, either wire or on the body, to tap into. I've just found that running the wire runs up that loom well to the black wire.

I just tapped into the yel/blu midway between the plug and where the wires from the two plugs are loomed together.

It's all pretty simple, I think you can figure it out from here. :-)

Remember to check your work before putting everything back together, that way you are sure you won't have to go back in there and work on it again. Remember, do it once the right way and you won't be sorry down the line. :-)
